The United Nations Development Programme and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania yesterday signed a new project document that will provide support to the establishment of Agricultural Delivery Division (ADD) in the President’s Deliver Bureau. The support is part of ongoing efforts to ensure achievement of the national key results area for agriculture as stipulated in the Big Results Now

The signing ceremony of the project entitled Catalyzing Agricultural Development in Tanzania - Agricultural Delivery Division (ADD) took place at the President’s Office State House led by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Peter Ilomo and the United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Alberic Kacou. The signing ceremony was attended by Government Officials from Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperatives as well as representatives from UNDP and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

This overall aim of the project is to provide critical technical assistance and seed funding to jump start the establishment of the Tanzanian Agricultural Delivery Division (ADD) in the President’s Delivery Bureau (PDB).

The proposed ADD will expedite achievement of the BRN’s national key result area for agriculture by performing a dedicated function in the President’s Delivery Bureau (PDB) ). The project will provide support to the Agricultural Delivery Division to oversee, monitor and evaluate implementation of national development plans for agriculture through sound prioritization, detailed monitoring tools, and accountability for performance so that the agricultural sector can increase productivity and income of poor farmers, creating job opportunities for the unemployed and improving livelihoods for millions of smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth. The three year US$ 9.5 million project is jointly funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and UNDP.

''The government is very grateful to Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for the support it has given through UNDP. The Foundation has been supporting many sectors.
