A Pan-African congress on local climate solution for Africa has called for innovative solutions and opportunities to the challenges of rapid urbanization, and realistic responses to climate change at the local government level. A three days congress which started on Wednesday 30th October 2013 at Kunduchi Beach Hotel in Dar-es-Salaam was attended by over 500 participants aimed to provide a platform for government, business, academics and NGOs to discuss, debate and find solutions to the challenges of rapid urbanization experienced in Africa.

Government and UNDP Sign Programme of Support for the Establishment of the Agricultural Delivery Division
The United Nations Development Programme and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania yesterday signed a new project document that will provide support to the establishment of Agricultural Delivery Division (ADD) in the President’s Deliver Bureau. The support is part of ongoing efforts to ensure achievement of the national key results area for agriculture as stipulated in the Big Results Now(BRN)

UNDP South-South Cooperation to Elections Support National Launch of the 2013 Africa Economic Outlook Report: Structural Transformation and Natural Resources
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) partnered with Africa Development Bank (AFDB), the OECD Development Center and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in production of the 2013 Africa Economic Outlook Report which was launched on 3rd October 2013 in Dar-es-Salaam. Present at the occasion were Government representatives, members of the Diplomatic Corps, Academia, Media, International organization representatives, and members of the UN family.

Under international human rights conventions that Tanzania has ratified, state organs are bound to uphold human rights including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. However, implementation of Tanzania’s international human rights obligations remains fragile due to capacity weaknesses in the justice system and delays in incorporating human rights into national laws, among other obstacles.

On September 22nd, the Government of Tanzania, Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute, University of Dar es Salaam and other partners convened the first ever "National Elephant Day" to raise awareness and discuss the serious impact that elephant poaching is having on Tanzania's biodiversity, social and ecological health, tourism industry and last but not least, the survival of the beloved species itself

On 17 September 2013, UNDP supported the inauguration of a solar power system under the Small Grants Project. The system, which cost US$50 000, was installed at a dispensary located at Mbingu village in the Ifakara District, Morogoro. It serves more than 18,000 people from the nearby three villages of Mbingu, Igima and Mpofu.

Tanzania completed its national post-2015 report in May 2013 after a very broad consultative process. The report comprises of key consultations across several groups in the country, including public and private sector, higher learning institutions, women, youth, and children. The broad message of the consultations is that the MDGs are still relevant as there is an unfinished business, but there is a need to go beyond MDGs to take into account new and emerging issues and aspirations.

In launching the preparation of a legal environment assessment to strengthen and address human rights for people living and affected by HIV and AIDS, in May 2013, the Government of Tanzania established a joint Steering Committee composed of key stakeholders from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Members of Parliaments, the Attorney General’s Chamber, other legal institutions, CSOs, development partners and the private sector.
