STATEMENT BY THE UNDP AT THE OCCASION TO INAUGURATE THE UNDP-SUPPORTED SOLAR POWERSep 17, 2013On behalf of the United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Alberic Kacou and the UNDP Country Director, Philippe Poinsot, I wish to thank you for this opportunity to be a part of this historic occasion to inaugurate the Mbingu Missionary Health Centre. We as UNDP commend the Roman Catholic Church and the Hospital Management for this decision to adopt solar energy which not only promotes the generation of clean energy but will also help stabilize the provision of sound medical services in theatres and labour wards by ensuring that life saving medicines and vaccines remain potent as a result of well powered cold chains.

- For nurses and doctors in remote areas, reliable electricity makes the difference between saving a life or losing a life. Solar-powered pre-fab clinics are changing all this and they're cheaper to run and more environmentally friendly: #SE4ALL | #Health4ALL | #GlobalGoals 21 hours ago
- Without daycare or kindergarten in their village, single moms in Georgia are stuck between needing more money than they earn to hire a babysitter or staying at home to watch their children. It's even harder for Lela because her village is next to South Ossetia, where border disputes lead to violence, so babysitters are hard to come by. A daycare and kindergarten has given Lela and other single moms a safe place to leave children while they work: #ShareHumanity | #GlobalGoals | UNDP Georgia Yesterday AT 10:44 PM
