Environmental Trends Threaten Global Progress for the Poor, Warns Report

Development progress in the world’s poorest countries could be halted or even reversed by mid-century unless bold steps are taken now to slow climate change, prevent further environmental damage, and reduce deep inequalities within and among nations, according to projections in the 2011 Human Development Report, launched in Dar es Salaam by Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office Mr Peniel Lyimo.>more

UN-REDD Supports Tanzania Preparations for Climate Change Meeting

The UN-REDD Country Programme in Tanzania is supporting the Government with preparations for the upcoming 17th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 17).  The conference will be held in Durban, South Africa, from 28 November to 9 December this year. This will be the third climate change conference to be held in Africa, after Kenya in 2006 and Marrakesh in Morocco in 2001.>more

New Office Brings Hope to Forest Community

It was a lovely bright Wednesday morning in late August, when the UNDP vehicle carrying me and other colleagues pulled up at the Nilo Nature Reserve where dozens of people from surrounding villages had gathered. They had anxious looks on their faces because the details of the gathering had not been told to them. All they were asked was to converge in one place to receive a special visitor.>more

Ensuring a Strong Democracy through Elections


As the 2010 elections in Tanzania approach, officials are busy ensuring proper mechanisms are in place to guarantee a democratically fair and legitimate process for the country's citizens. Voter education initiatives have been mobilized to ensure that voters, particularly women, youth, persons with disabilities, people living in remote areas and other marginalized groups, are educated on the registration and voting process in time to vote. >more

MDGs Topped Helen Clark's Tanzania Agenda
